THE CONSORTIUM FOR RESEARCH ON RENEWABLE INDUSTRIAL MATERIAL'S (CORRIM) MISSION SEEKS TO ESTABLISH, SUPPORT AND MANAGE RESEARCH, AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS RELATED TO THE PRODUCTION, USE, AND FINAL DISPOSAL OF WOOD PRODUCTS INCLUDING FORESTRY OPERATIONS AND LIQUID AND SOLID CELLULOSIC FUELS. CORRIM'S RESEARCH FOCUSES ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT THROUGH THE LIFE SPAN OF THESE PRODUCTS INCLUDING ENERGY USE, RESOURCE CONSUMPTIONS, AND ENVIRONMENTAL RELEASES IN THE FORM OF AIR AND WATER EMMISSIONS, AND SOLID WASTE. CORRIM'S GOALS ARE TO CREATE AND MAINTAIN WOOD PRODUCTION DATABASES THAT EVALUATE THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF WOOD PRODUCTS AND ALTERNATIVE NON-WOOD-BASED MATERIALS FROM RESOURCE EXTRACTION TO DISPOSAL. CORRIM HAS PRODUCED GUIDELINES FOR EVALUATING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS SPECIFIC TO FORESTRY OPERATION AND WOOD PRODUCTION TO BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS FOR PERFORMING LIFE CYCCLE ASSESSMENT.
